New chair named to Copyright Board

Justice Luc Martineau has been appointed chair of the Copyright Board of Canada. He assumed the chair position on Oct. 2, 2020, for a five-year term, according to a press release from the office of the minister of Innovation, Science and Industry.Justice Martineau, who holds a master of law degree from the University of Ottawa, was called to the bar of Quebec in 1978 and was a lawyer for 24 years, establishing his own firm in 1996. He was appointed judge of the Federal Court of Canada and member of the Court of Appeal in January 2002. In April 2002, he was named judge of the Court Martial Appeal Court of Canada. He was appointed as a member of the Public Servants Disclosure Protection Tribunal in 2007, serving as the tribunal’s president from 2010 to 2014. 

Justice Martineau replaces Justice Robert A. Blair.
